Geetha Shiva Rao, MD

Dr. Geetha Rao is the medical director of Radiation Oncology at Piedmont Fayette Hospital. She received her undergraduate degree from The Johns Hopkins University. She then completed Duke University Medical School in 1995, and her residency in Radiation Oncology from the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor, MI in 2000. There, she served as chief resident and as an attending physician after training.

She joined private practice locally in 2004 and has worked exclusively at the Piedmont Fayette Radiation center since its opening in 2010. She has served on numerous committees including the medical executive committee, the Women’s Leadership council, and the Breast Cancer steering committee. She has also given several cooking demonstrations in the Cancer Wellness center for patients and their families. In 2017, she was appointed to the Board of Directors of Piedmont Fayette Hospital.

Her practice consists of treatment of all types of cancer, but her specific interests include breast, prostate, and cancers of the head and neck.

She lives in Peachtree City with her husband, Dr. Thippeswamy Murthy (cardiology) and her two children, ages 12 and 16. She is an avid hiker and loves to cook and read in her spare time.
