David John Smith, DO

Dr. David Smith, D.O. is originally from Texas, but because his parents were in the Air Force he spent his childhood traveling the world. Dr. Smith attended Ohio State University and received a degree in business. It was then he decided to pursue his heart's desire, a career in medicine. Dr. Smith studied pre-med at the University of Florida and then attended University of North Texas Medical School where he received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine. After an internship at Southeastern Medical Center in Miami, Florida, Dr. Smith took a 2-year surgical residency at the University of Hawaii, this is where he pursued his passion in practicing Emergency Medicine and working with critical patients.

Board certified in Emergency Medicine, Dr. Smith partnered with a group of Emergency Physicians to practice Emergency Medicine in a hospital environment for over 20 years; most of his time dedicated to Northside Hospital in Cumming, Georgia. Dr. Smith moved to North Georgia in 1990 and developed a strong following of patients in Forsyth County and a reputation for an excellent physician and caring professional, “I love being able to help others and use the knowledge to assist my patients back to good health,” says Dr. Smith.

Dr. Smith is actively involved in the community, providing care for various events such as Middle and High School football teams, The Bellsouth Classic golf tournament, and a leader with Leadership Forsyth. When Dr. Smith is not working, he enjoys golfing, fishing, working outside and being with his family, wife Melissa Smith and 3 children. Although Dr. Smith does not live on the coast, surfing and sailing are dear to his heart.
